Theater Latté Da’s Board of Directors named Kim Motes as its first full-time Managing Director. She brings nearly 20 years of arts management experience to the 11-year-old nonprofit company.
Most recently, Motes served as Executive Director of the Minnesota Shubert Performing Arts and Education Center for Artspace Projects Inc. Since 2002, she tirelessly led efforts at the Minnesota Shubert Center to create a new three-building performing arts center dedicated to dance in Downtown Minneapolis. During her tenure there, she helped raise $34.5 million toward a $41 million capital campaign goal. Also for Artspace, she developed and directed an award-winning, Internet-based education program that has reached 50 Minnesota schools with more than $630,000 in dedicated funding.
Previously, Motes was director of development at Arena Stage in Washington, DC, for five years. Prior to this, for six years, she directed adult arts education programming at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and created a national ballet training program. She also worked at the Washington Ballet as an in-house publications editor and booking agent for that company’s national tours.
Motes served on the board of Theater Latté Da for several years. She currently sits on the Board of the Downtown Minneapolis Neighborhood Association. She has been a frequent presenter and panelist regarding arts management and fund-raising nationally.
“We have expanded the art of musical theater for more than a decade, using a deeply collaborative approach,” according to Peter Rothstein, Artistic Director and Cofounder of Theater Latté Da. “Because of Kim’s skilled expertise and our longtime friendship, I know that we now have a strong administrative leader and collaborator to help propel the theater to a new level.”
