Hot picks from MOA® Trend Specialist Sara Rogers
Best known for covering up cowboys and primping the preppies, plaid is in everyone’s good graces for fall ’09. Found in a multitude of patterns from buffalo to tartan, you can find a plaid this season that will fit in at any event. Make sure to choose fitted styles with fun extras like zippers or epaulets for an update that will take your look from lumberjack to “love it”!

(From Left to Right, Top to Bottom)

Western
True Religion Brand Jeans / Level 1, South (S174)

Perfect for making the long, cold trek down Oregon Trail, this flannel style from True Religion oozes classic cowboy style with features like mother-of-pearl buttons and the always-noticed horseshoe logo on the pocket. Giddy-up!

Sophisticated
Martin + Osa / Level 2, South (S214)

Usually associated with casual wear, plaid can even be a great choice for adding a little spice to your work wardrobe this season. Pick a basic plaid in a classic color and fitted style and you’re ready to get to work! Martin + Osa has great options in a multitude of colors, including this season’s standout purple.

Details
Bloomingdale’s

It’s all about the details in this hunter plaid from Diesel. The addition of zippers, pockets on the sleeve and funky epaulet styling make this a must-have for anyone’s wardrobe. Unique, barely-there extras really help to make a piece stand out while still giving it staying power in your wardrobe.

Unexpected Colors
Metropark / Level 1, North (N108)

Even though the classic red and black buffalo style is still hot, designers also got creative this season by giving plaid an extended palate to play with. This retro look from Metropark really pops in an unexpected turquoise hue. Added bonus – the sleeves can be worn rolled up or down to take you into different seasons.

Pattern Play
Burberry / Level 1, South (S178)

As the king of all things plaid, Burberry is an obvious choice for this column – however, this abstract print style from their fall ’09 line is definitely anything but obvious. Exaggerated and unexpected, this plaid is the perfect choice for an exciting night on the town.
