Slice: Newsy Bits

New restaurants abound! Murray’s has reopened after a needed facelift. Don’t worry, that butterknife steak remains one of the glories of great meat eating. 26 S. 6th St, Minneapolis

Eat Shop Bar/Kitchen has taken over the former Joe Senser’s in Plymouth off County Road 24 and Highway 55. It’s remarkable in that it’s a local, independent restaurant cooking from scratch. I’ve only had a few bites, but they are currently serving the single best calamari in town. Expect to hear more about this place soon. 16605 County Road 24, Plymouth

Don Saunders has opened the doors at The Kenwood, just steps away from Lake of the Isles.  They open at 8am every day and stay open until 9pm all days except Sunday, when they’ll close at 2. I’ve only sampled a tiny bite of breakfast, but hold onto your flavor-loving pants – it was so exquisite a bite of food that I immediately proposed to my pancake. We will spend forever in maple syrup sticky bliss, rolling on blankets of black walnut studded butter.  2115 W 21st St, Minneapolis

Not all the new food fun can be found inside four walls. Celebrity Chef Andrew Zimmern debuted his new food truck AZ Canteen . It’s a glorious truck, yellow gold colored and easy to spot. The staff is polished and clearly having a great time. While you won’t see the big guy behind the grill (at least I haven’t) you will get the most delicious goat found on four wheels. While the Cabrito butter burger (goat) is hard to pass up, my current favorite is the green papaya salad topped with pork belly. Crispy, crunchy, fatty, unctuous, refreshing with a little chili burn– it’s my new favorite salad and comes in an easy to eat curbside or at your desk. www.azcanteen.com
