Featuring seven local fashion designers paired with operatic and classical musicians, designers Tim and Thom Navarro presented fashion in theatrics with the inaugural Black Hearts Ball runway event. Hosted at the Minneapolis Club, the self-titled “high-class aphrodisiac” event offered contemporary fashion juxtaposed with historic opulence. Tim Navarro illustrated social commentary on how androgyny translates power into confidence with iridescent fabrics and structured designs. We’re impressed with his take on the modern blazer suited for any gender identity. [More about Tim here.] Laura Fulk, one of the most daring and enigmatic designers in the Twin Cities, presented a four-piece set titled Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt, on the removal of oneself from fear. With a striking emerald gown following three futuristic dresses in brilliant white, Fulk recaptures our imagination after being absent from the scene since 2010. We’re begging she comes back. [More about Laura here.]
In the print edition of the magazine [Issue 490, page 45] we mistakenly mis-attributed Laura and Tim’s designs to one another.
