The Brave New Workshop is offering an irreverently delightful holiday show, Twerking Around the Christmas Tree. This company collaboration directed by Katie McEwen has two off-the-chart hilarious sketches. One features Andy Hilbrands as a young man who obsessively yearns to play the iconic juvenile musical role of Annie even though he isn’t even familiar with the script or the story.

The other has Bobby Gardner as The Little Drummer Boy who Mary and Joseph actually become quite cross with. The issue at hand is that his drum beating and off-key vocals will disrupt the sleep of Baby Jesus. To add insult to injury, the drummer boy has a room at the inn which turned away Mary, Joseph, and Jesus.

BNW’s annual rendition of The 12 Days of Christmas is always a highlight and this year it’s in top form. Hilbrands and Gardner along with Lauren Anderson and Melanie Wehrmacher not only show great concentration but savvy observations of people whose lesser qualities tend to get the better of them at holiday time. You will likely recognize someone you know in this number, maybe even yourself! Yikes!
