And that’s precisely why Ashlee Olds started Sweet Science; because, as she says, “ice cream should be great tasting and complex while uniting fellow ice cream lovers together for a few moments of chilled bliss.”
Olds and her team start with locally sourced natural and organic ingredients before meticulously combining them to craft the smoothest, most flavorful ice cream this side of the Milky Way. One taste of Sweet Science and their motto becomes clear: “Making ice cream takes skill. Perfecting it takes science.”
“When you start with amazing ingredients you don’t really need to do much to them to make them shine,” Olds says. “If you keep your suppliers and partners local the money stays in your community and you build a stronger system. We make everything, including the ice cream bases, from scratch, which is unusual in the industry. This allows us to have complete control over the end result.”
Although Sweet Science doesn’t typically do custom flavors for your big day, they are happy to do custom labels to coordinate with the theme of the wedding. Couples can pick from what’s in stock at the time of the wedding, and Sweet Science always has all sorts of interesting seasonal flavors. The most popular? Salted caramel, berry crumble, and dark chocolate sorbet.
With creamy flavors like that, it’s no wonder Olds has seen a rise in modern couples starting to serve things that are less traditional, like pies, cupcakes, and other desserts; something unique to really speak to who the couple is as individuals. With her delicious “minis,” Olds gets many requests for weddings. She says, “A lot of times they will be served with cake but it’s also a fun item to put out with a late night snack when people need to cool down from dancing all night!”
