Pride means something different to each person. Yet every year more than 300,000 people converge along Hennepin Avenue and the Loring Park area for that one word: Pride. With a community that is in itself so diverse, it can be difficult to find common definitions. What is pride, and what does it mean to the GLBT community?
Kate Kilian took it upon herself to find out. During the 2014 Twin Cities Pride weekend, Kilian filmed a number of pride-goers to answer the questions “What are you proud of?” and “Why do you celebrate Pride?” She compiled their responses into a short video to easily spread the word that while pride is individual, it is simultaneously communal. Their varied responses are a reminder of the many reasons for having pride and celebrating Pride.
