Name: Jaysen Saly
Where did you grow up? Sacramento, CA.
Where do you live? Currently reside in Roseville but I still consider Minneapolis home.
Who do you live with? A friend and a cat.
What is your occupation? Coaching people to overcome obstacles on the race course and life.
When did you come out? Years ago; seriously, can’t remember.
How’d that go? Welcomed with open arms from the people I knew.
When do you wake up? Depending on certain days, I generally get up at 7 a.m., sometimes 5 a.m. if I teach a 6 a.m. fitness class.
Phone alarm or old school alarm? Phone alarm.
What’s the first thing you do in the morning? Maneuver my way to the kitchen with my eyes slightly closed. The first thing I do is eat breakfast to jump-start my metabolism and wake up the body.
Breakfast? About three eggs, a piece of bread, and a cup of yogurt with fruits.
Coffee? Keurig: Starbucks.
Cream or no? Cream, no sugar.
How do you spend your commute: I love my commute. Short and simple. I live half a mile from the Ninja Warrior gym so getting to work is very convenient.
If your job were like a yearbook, what would you be voted? Most likely to be a ninja.
What inspires you? My family inspires me to work hard. The community leaders who are working diligently for the citizens. My fellow Ninja Warrior athletes who are so humble and kind. The adaptive kids who struggle with a disability but overcome their personal obstacles.
Do you eat your lunch while working or take a break? Running my own business requires me to eat at my desk while I’m working. No time to take a break for lunch.
Is your work space tidy or a hot mess? My work space is a hot mess. I really need a couple of assistants.
What’s been your favorite job? Encouraging people to be their best.
Who are your heroes? Mom and Shaun T.
Favorite weeknight meal: I prefer to go out for dinner on the weekend. My favorite weeknight dinner would be a nice mixed green salad and a bison burger.
Most embarrassing moment: I was having a little too much fun at a friend’s wedding. I pirouetted on the dance floor and knocked over the cocktail table with drinks on it.
On a usual weeknight, you are doing what? On a usual weeknight, I’m teaching students to overcome their obstacles.
Bedtime: Running a business doesn’t allow you to get much sleep. I get a good six hours and go to bed around midnight.
Favorite weekend activity: Either doing a Ninja Warrior training or some mud run race.
Words of wisdom to share: Follow your passion and do what you love doing everyday. Embrace your failures and learn from it.
