Uprising Theatre Company is presenting a new play by Shannon TL Kearns directed by Ashley Hovell. This story of two very different cancer patients who just happen to enter one another’s life premieres at the Phoenix Theater. The playwright has become a major voice in transgender drama and has developed a large following. Moreover, Uprising Theatre Company has been ascending as a major voice in its own right, in the realm of queer theater.

Kearns relates, “Twisted Deaths explores the story of Ryan (Anthony Neuman), a young transgender man, and Pam (Holly Windle), an older conservative woman, who become unlikely friends when both receive unexpected diagnoses. The people around them are drawn into the swirl of their orbit as they navigate the health care system and make decisions about their care. The show asks questions such as: What happens when a cancer diagnosis throws your entire life off track? How do you (can you) connect with people who are drastically different from you? Who has control over your life and your body? What does it mean to die a ‘good death’? And above all it asks, how do you want to live?”
