The Singers: Shadows, Tears, and Light- Oct. 6th and 7th, 2018
The Singers begin their 15th season with two striking works: David Lang’s little match girl passion and Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna. David Lang’s little match girl passion was the winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize in Music. This stark setting of Hans Christian Andersen’s lonely tale combines with texts from Picanders’s libretto for Bach’s Saint Matthew Passion to highlight the suffering and loneliness of the young child. Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna, performed with chamber orchestra, is a soaring reflection on the light in times of darkness.
