THEATRE 301 AT MOUNT CALVARY LUTHERAN CHURCH, EXCELSIOR, MN is pleased to present this captivating, contemporary play, “The Laramie Project” on October 11, 12, 13, and 14, 2018, with Director, Meg Olson and Assistant Director, Nolan Henningson.
“Hate is not a Laramie value”
This statement was on a public sign in Laramie, Wyoming after the brutal beating and eventual death of Matthew Shepard, a young gay man. “The Laramie Project”, created by Moisés Kaufman and the Members of the Tectonic Theatre Project, confronts this statement in the aftermath of such a horribly violent crime. The play takes us to Laramie, meeting people in the community – both directly related to the crime and on the periphery – as the characters and the audience attempt to come to grips with how this heinous act could occur. As we approach the 20th anniversary of Matthew’s death, we continue to be challenged by that statement and how to create a world where hate is not a value.
