Uprising Theatre Company closes its 2019 Season with IN A STAND OF DYING TREES, written by Artistic Director Shannon TL Kearns, where big city idealism and small town realities intersect with stark political differences. The gripping new play will be on stage November 8-23 at the Off-Leash Art Box, located at 4200 E. 54th St. in Minneapolis.
In this provocative and probing story, Ben and Amanda are happy and comfortable with their rural life. They love their town and they love their neighbors. When Liam, Ben’s former college friend, shows up on a campaign to get people to “vote blue,” their idyllic existence is threatened. This tense tale asks: Can people remain friends even when they disagree? How is it for transgender folks who live in rural areas? And who has the right to defend themselves?
Emily England directs Carey Morton (Liam), Jeff Miller (Ben), Mike Novak (Joe) and Maretta Zilic (Amanda) as they unravel the complicated issues on stage.
In a Stand of Dying Trees, like each show in Uprising’s 2019 Season, looks at the ubiquitous gun violence problem from a different perspective and lens – and brings the company’s complicated, nuanced and conversation-provoking style to this deadly issue. With their customary collaborative approach, Uprising partners with community organizations who are doing work on the issue so audiences can connect art with action and get involved before they even leave the theatre. The company is partnering with Moms Demand Action and Better Angels Minnesota for this show.
Tickets are $20 (general admission) and are available at 612-520-1230 or online at www.uprisingtheatreco.com. Connect with Uprising on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram: @uprisingtheatre
