WHAT: Midtown Global Market is welcoming Fall with a Fall Market and celebration of Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights on Saturday, October 13. Guests can enjoy shopping local at a variety of vendors all day while enjoying entertainment and activities including live music, henna and children’s crafts.
Diwali, also known as the Hindu festival of lights, is the largest and most widely celebrated Hindu festival. Originating in India, this holiday is an expression of happiness and the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. The celebration takes place each year in autumn and traditionally lasts five days with the largest celebration on the third day. This holiday is celebrated by all ages and traditional activates include fireworks, gift exchanges, storytelling, shopping, candle lighting and a feast.
Candles and clay lamps called diyas are lit and placed on roofs, around front doors and in windows of homes symbolizing positive life and being thankful for health, wealth, knowledge and fame.
