This spring, Cantus presents For the Beauty of the Earth, a celebration of the majesty of this planet. The acclaimed eight-man vocal ensemble shares an appreciation of Earth’s profound beauty and fragility at five Twin Cities venues from April 12-22.

Even as modernization increasingly creates detachment from the natural world, nature always remains integral to living, providing not only life-sustaining resources but also artistic inspiration. This program introduces new adaptations by Cantus singers including Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land” and Marvin Gaye’s “Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology),” and features some perennial favorites such as Hugo Alvén’s “Aftonen” and the eponymous “For the Beauty of the Earth.”

“We are so excited to share For the Beauty of the Earth with our home audience. It’s a wonderful opportunity to present some gorgeous new arrangements and revisit classic repertoire, while at the same time demonstrating gratitude and highlighting the importance of responsible environmental stewardship,” said Paul Scholtz, Cantus tenor.

For the Beauty of the Earth concerts will be presented:

Thursday, April 12 @ 7:30pm
Antonello Hall, MacPhail Center for Music, Minneapolis

Saturday, April 14 @ 7:30pm
Ordway Center for Performing Arts Concert Hall, Saint Paul

Friday, April 20 @ 11:00am
Colonial Church of Edina, Edina

Saturday, April 21 @ 7:30pm
Trinity Lutheran Church, Stillwater

Sunday, April 22 @ 3:00pm
Wayzata Community Church, Wayzata

Single ticket prices vary by concert venue and can be purchased online at cantussings.org or by calling 612-435-0055. Student and group discounts are available.

Integral to the Cantus mission is a commitment to deepen the music education experience in the lives of young people. Each year, Cantus invites Twin Cities metro area high school choirs to apply for a residency program and selects three new schools to participate. Over the course of the school year, Cantus artists work with the choirs and directors from the schools during a series of masterclasses. Together they also participate in a winter festival day for coaching and rehearsing for the culminating concert in the spring. The singers celebrate their year-long residency with Fridley High School, Minneapolis South High School and New Prague High School with a concert at 7:30pm on March 20 at Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Rd. in Edina. General admission tickets are $10 for adults and seniors, and $5 for students and children. Tickets can be purchased online at cantussings.org or by calling 612-435-0055.
