Black Widows Releases Sounds of Tortuga Island Exotica EP on 4/14/18
Local punk-surf-soul band, Black Widows, is self-releasing an all instrumental exotica CD EP called Sounds of Tortuga Island. The band will be performing these original songs and more at a release party at the Bryant Lake Bowl Theater on Saturday, April 14th, 2018.
Doors: 9:30 pm. Music: 10:00 pm.
Tickets: $10/advance. $12/door.
Spend an intimate evening with Black Widows and friends as they perform a mostly-instrumental set of original exotica songs off their brand new EP release, Sounds of Tortuga Island. Without setting down their electric guitars, Black Widows have created a musical landscape evocative of a place much warmer than Minnesota. With help from the Black Widows Go-Go Dancers and Singers and other special guests, Black Widows will take you on an aural journey to Tortuga Island. Proceeds from Sounds of Tortuga Island will benefit the opening of “Tortuga Island,” a future feminist music/art/community space, run by none other than Black Widows themselves. More information on this project can be found at gofundme.com.
Sounds of Tortuga Island takes a leap in a different direction, giving a nod to the “exotica” genre made popular in the 1950s, while still retaining the brash rock-and-roll attitude Black Widows fans expect.
In addition to releasing this EP and conspiring to open the “Tortuga Island” community space, Black Widows is also working on a full-length album to be released later this year and have a full calendar of fun spring and summer festival shows, so find them or they will find you!
