I think instead of saying “Ghetto Coffee,” you should start calling it “Poor People Coffee.”

I’m going to have to disagree with you, Wanda.

One-fifth of the world’s population is Muslim, and that is why he is addressing Islam before the gays. At least that is my opinion.

I have probably misunderstood you, but it sounded to me like you were saying that Obama should have addressed our community before Islam. Gays are the minority in our global population. Given the awful relationship/perception between the U.S.A. and the Middle East I am thrilled that Obama is trying to do something about it. I also think it is important to note that gays cannot be lumped into one group just like Muslims cannot or Christians cannot.

It really would be nice if we could be treated like equal citizens though. I am no martyr, but I will say I am more concerned with foreign relations with the Middle East than I am gay marriage. I feel like my well being is dependent on relations with the Middle East. Is that awful? Am I just paranoid that Pakistan may sell nukes to terrorists when the current leader is gone? Please educate me if this is ignorance on my part.

    Floyd,

You are way off base. Just because Muslims are 5% of the population has nothing to with the rights of the LGBT community. There is no good reason that people of all sexual preferences cannot be equally happily married.

The point to all this is that there should not have to be a vote on someones civil rights. In a perfect world there shouldn’t even be a debate on the matter. You should not be discriminated against for being gay, just like someone of color. Being gay or lesbian is not something you decide to do, or something you catch like a cold. So, why should there be a correlation to something you have complete free will over,…religion.

Terrorism is a serious thing, I agree. And the president did a fine job of putting out there a message of tolerance to the worlwide community for Muslims. And although he has not stood up on a soap box for gay rights, we can hope that it opens the door for the greater tolerance for all people.

    1/5 = 20%

    Sorry I couldn’t help it.

    Jason,

I am sorry that you misunderstood my comment. Perhaps you should reread.

I made no correlation between our rights and 20% of the worlds population. That would be silly, just like you said.

To put it more plain so that you can understand….

I feel it is more important for the president to address the USA’s relationship with the Middle East than for him to provide us with a commentary on his own personal views on the issue of our civil rights.

    The bottom line…
The president does not make laws and is not on the supreme court, therefore he isn’t of much concrete help to us at this point. Like I said before, I am happy he is trying to improve relations with the Middle East.

    P.S. Thank you ‘Math’.
