The fact is more people will see the Milk movie because Penn is in the lead. I’m sure there’ll be a surge in people checking out The Times of Harvey Milk doc because of the Penn movie. It’s important the story be heard by as many people possible. I don’t know the background of how the movie was made but maybe Penn campaigned for it. Maybe he had something to do with getting it made. I dunno. I believe we (gay peeps) have to take a lot more baby steps than other minorities because we are the last group that ’s ok to discriminate against. The…last…ones…left. It’s practically sanctioned. After us who’s left for insecure people to feel superior over? I think to dwell too much on straight actors playing gay characters is a waste of time given the issues we face. I’ve been with my guy for 21 years and I want to get married damn it! With all the security that comes with it. Ok I’m done ranting.

Hi Wanda, Colin from London here a 46 year old partnered, sober bear! I love the progrum. I have to disagree with you though over the gay actors thing. I don’t find it offensive, I don’t even know if Sean Penn is straight - he was married to Madonna for christ’s sake! I think what matters is getting this story out there, so many people I speak to, even gay ones don’t know who Harvey Milk was, that’s pretty sad. Surely it shouldn’t matter what the actor’s sexuality is. I’m an ‘out’ gay man and I’m just glad they are making the film. I don’t think it’s my business to know if an actor is gay or straight. It’s pretty hard to have a white guy playing a black guy or vice versa.
