Thank you, Wandita, for bringing attention to the fact that yes, even in America, even here we have human trafficking and slavery!

National Geographic had a very interesting article on it a few years ago about people who are held captive all over America. Orange pickers in Florida, etc.

It really is a much bigger problem than I think most people imagine.

Oh, and this Pride month in SF is going to be amazing! Couples finally legally getting married - it's a dream come true! Glad that other people agree. :)

The thing that is exciting about California and really pushes the envelope (and in turn scares the religious nutcases to death) is that CA will not have a residency requirement to get married there. This means you can go to CA, get married, and when you return to Minnesota, you can demand recognition for your marriage. It seems inevitable that this non-residency thing will have it all ending up in the Supreme Court and that makes the possibility of nationally recognized gay marriage very real. That possibility is what is really scaring the religi-wackos.

Woo-Hoo; Gay Marriage is on the move!!! Governor David Paterson, of New York, just issued an order directing state agencies to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states. While this doesn't legalize gay marriage in New York, it's a positive step forward. NY LGBT couples will be able to marry in Canada, Massachusetts*, foreign countries and starting June 17th in California and then have their unions legally recognized when they return to their home state.

*Mass. has a residency requirement that may present a barrier to out-of-state couples.
