I hope you’re happy you made me cry…at work at my desk. Because everything you said I have felt at various points in my life. And finally at 45 years old, I have finally discovered that I belong, I love myself, I am the only one that can truly make myself happy. Others cannot do that for me, even through for at least 40 years, maybe a little less I tried to find that happiness, love, please see me, I am not really invisible am I?, I don’t really belong here, what am I doing here through everyone else in my life. Because I was too scared to look at myself, I mean REALLY look at myself because I chose to believe what was said or done to me by others that didn’t have my best interest at heart, even though they thought they did. Or maybe they didn’t and I didn’t have a high enough self image of my self to say they were wrong, until now.

It took turning 44 and now 45 to start to become comfortable in my own skin, love that skin and not see all the negative, but look at the positive and realize “DAMN I’M GOOD!” I am successful, I am beautiful, I am not an imposter in the career I have now, I belong and I am exactly where God wants me to be, and I am exactly who I should be at this point and time. I try to tell myself that all the time, doesn’t always work, but most of the time it does and it feels good.

Thank you for your podcast today, because it was another wake up to how far I’ve become and obviously how far you have come also. I love you and I love your show.

    Wanda,

Thank you - once again - for a wonderful thought-inspiring podcast. You are truly one class act. I’ve listened to other podcasts, and frankly they pale in comparison to yours. Down to the smallest details, your podcast is simply the best. Well constructed and polished. Stroking your ego - LOL… The reason why I decided to write in today is that - I think you spoke about equality and marriage in your podcast. Did you? At least I hope you did. At any rate…

(My home state of) Massachusetts has earned the dubious honor of being the only state to have legalized same-sex marriages. Despite years of legislative struggle, I am pleased to say that today, pro-equality got a shot-in-the-arm when our state legislature summarily defeated an amendment to put the future of marriage equality on the state’s November 2008 election ballot. Many groups like GLAD, MassEquality and the Massachusetts Gay and Lesbian Political Caucus along with our Governor, House Speaker and Senate President all worked to bring about the decisive 151-45 vote on the side of equality. Their honorable actions have assured the preservation of our civil rights. This news makes me happy indeed, and I wanted to share it with you and your “gal-pal” listeners.

If any of your listeners are residents of Massachusetts, they might want to thank their elected officials and the aforementioned organizations. Without their tireless support and advocacy, the vote today might have gone in an entirely different way – one that might have shaped a much darker future for LGBT marriage rights.

I’m happy to have done my part to ensure that marriage equality in Massachusetts will be around for the foreseeable future. Approximately 10,000 LGBT couples have wed since our state Supreme Judicial Court decided in 2004 that denying same-sex couples the right of marriage was a violation of our state constitution. With today’s vote, tens of thousands more will like marry in the coming years.

With marriage in Massachusetts secure, the focus must turn to the rest of New England, the other states across our nation where marriage equality has not faired as well, and to the efforts needed to challenge and ultimately dismantle the Federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), first enacted during President Clinton’s administration and further strengthened during the consecutive administrations of George W. Bush.

I’ll close on that note. Please keep your fabulous podcast coming our way.

    Take Care!
    Rob
