I dunno, I usually violently protest anyone when they say I _HAVE_ to do something because I am gay.

While I appreciated most of the arguments about the armed forces needing to be more tolerant and would vote towards any politicians who pledged to get rid of the stupid rules as they exist now… I’m not sure I like the idea that I have to keep a bookmarked list of corporations that are “evil” to gay people and make sure to castigate friends and family who dare to go there.

I thought it was a bullshit argument when gays asked for praise over dumping their Ford vehicles during the whole AFA fiasco, and I think it’s a bullshit argument when RambleRedhead tells me I can’t buy ExxonMobile because they cancelled certain benefits.

I mean, I can understand the argument that I shouldn’t WORK for exxonmobile as a gay man… But I also think that their punishment will be the loss of the employees that cared about it, and I’m not sure I should contribute towards being extra-punitive when really, the service I would generally ask from exxon is fuel that makes my car go and it’s much more rational to evaluate them based on that. This idea that a lack of “gay benefits” somehow taints gasoline and motor oil is a bit of a stretch and frankly I find it as manipulative a thought pattern as “family associations” and their boycotts.

I mean, I’ll take “gay friendliness” of a corporation as a consideration when I weighing the pros and cons between a variety of choices… but I don’t feel like I should slap myself for being a “bad gay man” if I’m out in the sticks running on fumes and Exxon was the only gas station there… and I’d probably tell off whoever tried to make me feel bad should I mention the clandestine fueling in casual conversation.

Wanda - Thanks for the interview. I am a big fan of Ramble and have listened to all of his shows. I had not previously listened to your show, Wanda, and certainly will be checking it out in the future.

Ramble’s interviews are the most provacative (sorry, don’t mean to sound pedantic) that I’ve heard concerning the gay community. The interviews with the servicemen were outstanding because they brought personal perspectives to things I’ve only read about.

Finally, I’m not quite sure why the first commenter got so bent out of shape. I do believe the gay community owes it to themself to support those groups who support us. I don’t have any problem with not giving my dollars to those who go out of their way to discriminate. Hence, no Coors beer, Domino’s pizza, or Cracker Barrel restaurants for me. Fuck ‘em.

    Thanks for the show.
