Try the book FREETHINKERS by Susan Jacoby, about secularism in the US and how the founding fathers, although spiritual/religious saw the good in keeping JC out of the Constitution.

My biggest concern right now are school boards rewriting the definition of Science, so they can include intelligent design in the schools.

I have major problems with that and wish I had kids, so I could be more involved in that discussion with schools. Let me take my “child” to church to learn about God, JC, religion, Buddha, Krishna, Allah, etc…and let the school teach about Darwin, Einstein, Hitler, Bush, Clinton. And then the parents, if they could handle it, would talk about the differences with the child.
