Thank you so much for the info, Mamori-chan! ^_^

A kind of night spot that Wanda was talking about is usually known as a "host club". It's a place where you are greeted by the "hosts" and they will sit down and chat with you over food and drinks. I guess there are two types of host clubs - one for gay men and another for straight women.

Staight men go to a "hostess club", but it is actually called "kyabakura" ("cabaret club"). Same system - just straight women working there as hostesses.

A "snack" or a "snack bar" usually refers to a very small bar where you enjoy conversation with the proprietress of a bar (Mama-san). Sometimes a "snack" could refer to something like a host club or a cabaret club, meaning that hosts or hostesses are there to chat with you.

So Wanda, the place you used to go is typically called a "host club", but it could be called a "snack" as well. I guess, if you call it "snack", it gives more intimate feeling.

I've never been to any of those places but I knew a lot of people who were working as hosts or hostesses - earns you good money.

I hope this helps!
